FAQS

+ What is epoxy resin?

In terms of the processes and materials that we use at Resino, resin is a generic term used when referring to a 2 part liquid formula which when combined turns to a solid material via a thermal reaction. Without getting too technical, epoxy refers to any of the basic components or cured end products of epoxy resins, as well as a colloquial name for the epoxide functional group. Epoxy resin is normally a clear viscous liquid that ‘cures’ into a solid state with favourable mechanical properties and high thermal and chemical resistance. In essence, it is a very durable material which can be controlled and manipulated to suit a variety of outputs and aesthetic results.

+ How long will the resin last and is it hard wearing?

There are many different formulations of resin that we use, with properties that will suit different applications. However in essence, the resin will last ‘forever’ and is very hard wearing. We can provide tips on looking after your Resino products and will always use the best material for the location and use of the item/surface.

+ Is epoxy resin food-safe?

In general epoxy resins are inert once cured/set. Some brands of resin have had their products tested and certified for use within a food safe environment. We are happy to offer food safe products if required.

+ How ‘green’ is epoxy resin and your processes?

Epoxy resins are mainly derived from petroleum, which by nature is not the most environmentally friendly substance/process. However, once cured or set epoxy resin is inert and not damaging to the environment. We often use resin produced by more ‘green’ means, the resin is a new generation, environmentally friendly epoxy resin, clear and waterproof epoxy system with over 50% of the product's molecular structure derived from plant and vegetable matter. We can use this on any specified product - this would normally be discussed with the client. Resin aside, we use reusable and recyclable products wherever possible throughout our processes. As we use wood regularly in our products and processes, we have promised each year to plant trees via the Forestry Commission to ensure that we offset our footprint.

+ Can you modify existing furniture/items?

This will depend on the item, but more often than not the answer is yes. We are happy to transform old or tired furniture if we can bring it up to the standards that we set ourselves. For example we could make a new table top for an existing frame/legs.

+ I have an idea, can you help me to make it a reality?

Of course! We love a challenge. Working with you in the concept and designs stages helps to make something that you feel a part of.

+ How much is a ‘standard table’?

Unfortunately there is no answer to this one, as there are so many variables and options to our resin tables

We take each item on a case-by-case basis aiming to fit within budget constraints depending on materials used, size, time restrictions etc. To get an idea of costs you can take a look at our for sale section or contact us to give you indicative costs for your project.

+ Do you ship abroad?

We will happily send products abroad as long as we can arrange for a suitable delivery option. With some items being very large and/or heavy we would need to evaluate suitable options to ensure safety and reduce damage risk. In some cases we may also need to install the finished piece, in which case we can travel with the item.

+ Do you work with materials other than wood and epoxy resin?

In short, yes. Our preferred materials are resin and wood as we find them such a good partnership, but often the style or environment for the product will warrant a different collaboration. We have worked with textiles/leather, metals, acrylic, glass, digital prints and more.

+ Can you make multiple items exactly the same?

With certain styles/applications this can be possible but it is not something we would want to be doing. Our work is bespoke and we want each item to be unique. If you were to order a set of tables for a hotel or restaurant for example, we could make these very similar in style and colour, but each would have its own character. This is the beauty of working with natural materials like hardwoods. We would also never replicate something that we have produced for another client.

+ How long will it take to make my item??

We would like to discuss your project with you before committing to a completion date/time. There are many contributing factors and each item is different. If we cannot deliver a project to a high standard in your specified time scale we would need to turn the work away, but having said that we will always do everything we can to work to your requirements.

+ What if I’m not happy with the result?

Hopefully this will never happen. Our consultative approach to making bespoke items means that we should be able to establish a firm brief before work commences. We can work with little or no guidance to a corporate brief with brand guidelines. Our aim is to produce work that elates and inspires. If this is not the case, we will endeavour to fix any issues and alter works if possible. It is important however to note that with hand crafted creative processes there will always be variables and a degree of ‘creative licence/allowance’.

+ Why do I need to pay a deposit?

We will commit to making you a truly unique and beautiful item, using materials sourced from the best suppliers and made with love from years of experience which is why we ask for commitment from you too. Often there will be significant expenses/outlays at the beginning of a project and we are a small business.

+ Why should I buy from Resino?

We are passionate about creating quality works that fulfil your wishes in a friendly and professional manner. Shopping online for everyday or mass-produced items is a relatively new convenience, but this is not conducive to feeling connected to your purchases. Our aim is to create to the highest quality long lasting focal pieces that are not available in the ‘buy it now’ or ‘flat pack’ world. When you work with us you get honesty and integrity.
